Double Bill: Jeffrey Foucault and Roosevelt Dime

Longtime disciple of the rich and strange music that sings behind the American veil, Foucault has spent the last decade mining the darker seams of country and blues, producing a string of spare and elemental albums of rare power while garnering accolades across the United States and overseas for a tersely elegant brand of songwriting set apart by its haunting imagery and weather-beaten cool. As the New York Times says, “Jeffrey Foucault is a young man with an old soul...contemporary and timeless.” He lives in Western Massachusetts.

Welcome to the world of Roosevelt Dime, a four-piece, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based band that blends elements of acoustic jug-band blues, classic New Orleans soul and neo-folk to create an original sound best described as Kings County Steamboat Soul. The band’s nontraditional lineup — consisting of banjo, electric and gut-bucket basses, percussion, clarinet, saxophone, and the occasional electric guitar — and seamless mixture of musical genres has been described as “a perpetual crowd-pleaser” by the New York Times. Now, the group is poised for a breakthrough with its new album Steamboat Soul.
